We visit fashion photographer Pedro Ferreira in his studio, where he explains why the Leica M9 is his camera of choice and how the new Leica APO-Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 ASPH. lens performs. “The perfect lens” as Pedro calls it.
Pedro, who shoots for Vogue Portugal on a regular basis, prefers to use artificial lighting in his shoots, even when outdoors. “I like to be in total control of the light,” he says. He does not shoot “high speed photography,” choosing to instead frame every shot thoughtfully. The results, as they say, speak for themselves.

Very nice to see a professional using an M for studio work. Goes to show that the M9 is a true photographers tool.

Very interesting approach. I really like the pictures, but I would never consider using the Leica M9 for studio photography.

Personally, I cannot get anything out for myself from this kind of photography. First of all, fashion photography is very commercial, it’s closer to advertising than to art (not saying that advertisement cannot be art). And then there’s this weird look you get when you use artificial light. It may be technically perfect, but it’s not for me.
It’s nice there’s professionals like him who can justify to spend that much money on expensive Leica equipment. It keeps Leica alive.

At the bottom of the wood, on the beach, in the theater, in the studio, in the streets, round the table at the pub. All you need is a Leica

If it works for him for sure it will work in a capable hands, and you cannot really say it will not work until you use on.
