EnglishThe Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2013 received thousands of entries from photographers all over the world. This video shows the portfolios of the award winners and finalists. It was screened at the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie festival held in Arles, France on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Photographer Evgenia Arbugaeva won the Leica Oskar Barnack Award for her portfolio, “Tiksi,” and Ciril Jazbec won the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award for his portfolio, “Waiting to Move.” Evgenia and Ciril were also presented their awards at this time.

I really like the idea of putting all these images in one video, this way I don’t have to click through them myself, I can just sit back and ‘enjoy’ the ride. (I turned off the music …) Anyway, what I wanted to bring up is that it breakes my heart to see all this misery, poverty, violence, etc. So much negativity in our world, the video left me with a gloomy feeling. Luckily, the winning series is a lot more optimistic, if not in content, then surely in the beautiful color images.
